Nannies Chocolate Rolls
2 sticks butter (not margarine), room temp.
1 C. sugar
2 T. cocoa
1 1/2 C. self rising flour
1 T. shortening
1/3 - 1/2 C. sweet milk (whole milk)
Additional 1 C. of sweet milk, set aside
In a bowl combine the butter, sugar and cocoa with a wooden spoon, set aside. In another bowl add the flour and shortening. Cut the shortening into the flour with a pastry blender or a fork. Make a well in the center and stir in 1/3 C. milk, combine and add a little more milk to make a soft dough. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll out into a thin rectangle, about 14" in length. Spread the chocolate butter mixture over the surface of the dough and roll up long ways. Cut into 1" pinwheels and place in a buttered 9x9 baking pan. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes. Remove and pour 1 C. of milk all over the top and return to the oven to thicken up, approx. 12 minutes. Remove and serve while hot.
